“The past year of Covid has been particularly challenging for residents and staff, but now that we are transitioning, we are ready to celebrate our third year on this beautiful campus,” said Shannon Lynch, Executive Director. “And the residents have been making the most of these nice spring days, getting outdoors as much as possible and reconnecting with their loved ones.”

Summit by Morrison on the Littleton Road is a senior living community offering independent living cottages and apartments, assisted living apartments and a memory care wing. It is part of The Morrison Communities, which includes Morrison Skilled Nursing, Sartwell Assisted Living and comprehensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services, at the Morrison’s original location on Terrace Street.

A firm commitment by the Board of Trustees to provide additional options for seniors who want to remain in the region as they age began to take hold in earnest in early 2014. At that time, the Board began the lengthy process of outlining the specifications and attending to the hundreds of details, including funding, that would eventually result in the new Summit by Morrison campus, which opened its doors to its first residents in 2018.

“I think I can speak for the entire Board of Trustees in saying how proud we are that current and former board members and our administrators were able to bring this enormous project to completion in just a few short years,” said Doug Shearer, current Board President. “Building Summit by Morrison creates a path for The Morrison Communities to one day be self-sustaining while providing additional and affordable senior living options in the North Country. It’s so gratifying to know that we were able to fill a need and are now celebrating our third anniversary.”

“This spring, with many of the restraints of Covid behind us, I can’t help but notice the bustling atmosphere as residents can be seen washing a car, walking a dog, watering window boxes, having lunch on the patio, or enjoying the mountain views,” said Lynch. “And as we welcome new residents and continue to fill, we can fully enjoy the richness of community that has been building over these last three years.”

This year, many outdoor enhancements are planned at Summit to give greater access to all residents, Lynch added. The plans include new pergolas for shade, gardens for vegetables and flowers, and additional seating areas to provide greater flexibility for outdoor visitations.

Lynch noted that while the anniversary celebration on June 23 is not open to the general public in the interests of continuing caution around Covid-19, members of the public who would like a tour can make an appointment by calling Summit at (603) 837-3500.

The Morrison Communities is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) charitable community that has been providing quality healthcare to residents of New Hampshire’s North Country since 1903. Located on two campuses in Whitefield, the original Morrison building includes The Morrison Skilled Nursing, Sartwell Place Assisted Living, and both Inpatient and Outpatient Rehabilitation. The Summit by Morrison continuum of care campus provides Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Care options. For more information, go to www.themorrisoncommunities.org
